Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
